WES BEANZ..... (a.k.a. Wes Bain) has been showing Vancouver Island a wide range of Breaks for 4 years. Starting his vinyl collection at 19 with the mean dark sound of Tear-Out Breaks, Beanz quickly became comfortable with the concept of beat matching and mixing. Having played at Victoria clubs such as Hush and The Whitebird Lounge, Wes has also rocked the upper island at former Nanaimo hot spot "The Press Room" and Courtenay's "Seven Lounge". In late 2003 Wes and fellow partner-in-crime Xavier Walker joined forces to make "W.A.X", later releasing their first CD "Earwax" in the summer of 2005. It was a spontaneous blend of Heavy, Dark and Funky Breaks that generated enough buzz to get them opening slots for UK breaks icons such as Breakspoll '07 winners NAPT, The Breakfastaz, as well as DJ Quest, Odissi, DJ Mutiny and Shimon. Inspired by the success and positive feedback of Earwax, Wes recorded a solo compilation "Dirty Morning" in April 2006 right before he headed up north to plant trees for the summer. Upon his return to the island Wes buckled down and nearly doubled his collection of music and widened his range of style, collecting House, Downtempo, Hip Hop, Trip Hop and Drum n' Bass along with more and more Breaks (of course). 2007 Was a big year for Wes having played at Soundwave and numerous other outdoor shows as well as countless club nights. In November of '07 Wes released another solo compilation entitled "Stomping Ground" which received excellent reviews and feedback. Its 2008 and Wes is loving the future sound of his favourite genre. The Buzz-Saw Bass Line sound, the Stabby Synths and Catchy Vocals will earn him his first headlining slot on a Saturday at Hush alongside hit man Xavier Walker. The DJ Comp and an opening gig for Aussie sensation Hook N Sling, as well as gigs for Soundwave and VEMF await Wes. |
